Description
The Amana-Goodman 20028401 is an OEM replacement pressure switch engineered for precise, dependable performance in Amana and Goodman heating and cooling systems. Designed with a single-pole, single-throw (SPST) configuration and a -1.35″ water column (wc) set point, this switch monitors draft pressure to verify proper inducer operation before allowing ignition — a critical safety function that helps protect equipment and occupants alike.
Key Features
- Set Point: -1.35″ water column (wc)
- Switch Type: SPST (Single-Pole, Single-Throw)
- Connection: 1/4″ barb fitting for secure, leak-free tubing attachment
- OEM replacement part for compatible Amana and Goodman furnace models
- Monitors inducer/draft pressure to ensure safe ignition sequencing
- Compact design for straightforward installation in tight equipment compartments
How It Works
The pressure switch senses negative pressure created by the draft inducer motor. When the inducer reaches the correct operating speed and generates sufficient draft, the switch closes (or opens, depending on circuit design) to signal the control board that conditions are safe to proceed with the ignition sequence. If the required pressure is not achieved — due to a blocked flue, failed inducer, or cracked pressure hose — the switch prevents ignition, protecting the system from unsafe operation.
Application
- Replacement for failed or out-of-spec pressure switches in Amana and Goodman furnaces
- Suitable for use during routine maintenance, safety inspections, and system troubleshooting
- Recommended for use with OEM-specified tubing and barb fittings for best results
Installation Tips
Always verify the set point and connection size match the original switch before installation. Inspect the pressure tubing for cracks, kinks, or blockages when replacing the switch, as tubing issues are a common cause of pressure switch faults. Refer to the equipment service manual for wiring diagrams and torque specifications.
