Description

The Armstrong Furnace R105510-01 is a direct OEM replacement flame sensor designed to restore safe, reliable ignition proving in compatible Armstrong furnaces. Flame sensors are a critical safety component in modern gas furnaces — they verify that a flame is present after ignition and signal the control board to keep the gas valve open. A failed or fouled flame sensor is one of the most common causes of short-cycling and no-heat calls, making this a go-to replacement part for HVAC technicians.

How It Works

The flame sensor uses the principle of flame rectification to detect combustion. When the burner fires, a small AC voltage is applied to the sensor rod. The presence of a flame allows a tiny DC microamp current to flow between the rod and the burner ground. The furnace control board reads this signal to confirm ignition. If the signal is absent or too weak — often due to oxidation on the sensor rod — the board shuts off the gas valve as a safety precaution.

Key Features
  • Direct OEM replacement for Armstrong Furnace systems
  • Restores proper flame rectification signal to the furnace control board
  • Helps eliminate nuisance short-cycling and no-heat fault codes
  • Manufactured to OEM specifications for fit, form, and function
  • Essential component for gas furnace safety and reliable operation
Application
  • Compatible with select Armstrong Furnace models — verify fit using your furnace model and serial number before ordering
  • Ideal for service technicians performing routine maintenance or diagnosing ignition/flame sensing faults
Installation Notes

Before replacing the flame sensor, inspect the existing sensor rod for oxidation or carbon buildup. In some cases, light cleaning with fine steel wool or emery cloth may restore function. If the sensor is cracked, broken, or cleaning does not resolve the fault, replacement with the R105510-01 is recommended. Always disconnect power and shut off gas supply before servicing.
