Description
Armstrong International Series 881 Cast Iron Inverted Bucket Steam Trap
The Armstrong International 881-3/4-15 is a heavy-duty Series 881 inverted bucket steam trap engineered for dependable condensate discharge and air venting in low- to medium-pressure steam systems. Built with a rugged cast iron body, this trap is designed to withstand the rigors of industrial and commercial HVAC and process steam applications.
Key Features
- Series 881 inverted bucket steam trap design for continuous, reliable condensate removal
- Cast iron body construction for long-lasting durability in demanding steam environments
- 3/4″ NPT connections for straightforward installation into standard piping systems
- Rated for 15 PSI operating pressure, suitable for low-pressure steam systems
- 1/4″ orifice for controlled condensate discharge and efficient steam conservation
- Inverted bucket mechanism provides automatic air and CO₂ venting on startup
- Resistant to water hammer and thermal shock common in steam distribution systems
How Inverted Bucket Traps Work
The inverted bucket principle uses the buoyancy of an upside-down bucket inside the trap body. When steam enters, the bucket floats and holds the discharge valve closed, preventing live steam loss. When condensate fills the body, the bucket sinks and opens the valve to discharge condensate — then resets automatically. This simple, proven mechanism delivers long service life with minimal maintenance.
Typical Applications
- Steam distribution mains and branch lines
- Unit heaters and convectors
- Steam tracing lines
- Low-pressure process equipment
- Commercial and industrial HVAC steam systems
