How It Works
A thermocouple operates on the Seebeck effect — when the tip of the thermocouple is heated by the standing pilot flame, it generates a small millivolt signal that holds the gas valve open. The K16RM-144 delivers an open circuit output in the 25–35 mV range, providing the consistent signal strength required to keep safety shutoff valves energized during normal operation. If the pilot flame is extinguished for any reason, the millivolt output drops and the gas valve closes automatically, preventing unburned gas from accumulating.
