Description
The Carrier HH680109 is an OEM rollout switch designed to protect furnaces and heating systems from the hazards of flame rollout. When burner flames extend beyond the combustion chamber — due to a cracked heat exchanger, blocked flue, or restricted airflow — this switch detects the elevated temperature and immediately interrupts the burner circuit, shutting down the system before damage or danger can occur.
How It Works
This rollout switch operates as a Single-Pole, Double-Throw (SPDT) device, tripping at a 190°F set point. Once the switch trips, it requires a manual reset, ensuring that a qualified technician inspects and resolves the root cause of the rollout condition before the system is returned to operation. This manual reset design is a critical safety feature that prevents the furnace from automatically restarting into an unsafe condition.
Key Features
- OEM Carrier replacement part — direct-fit for compatible Carrier furnace models
- SPDT (Single-Pole, Double-Throw) switching action
- 190°F trip temperature for accurate flame rollout detection
- Manual reset required after trip — prevents automatic restart into unsafe conditions
- Mounts directly to the burner compartment for accurate temperature sensing
- Helps protect heat exchangers, wiring, and surrounding components from fire damage
Application
- Designed for use in Carrier gas furnaces requiring OEM rollout switch replacement
- Suitable for residential and light commercial heating applications
- Always verify compatibility with your specific furnace model before installation
Installation Notes
Installation should be performed by a licensed HVAC technician. Before resetting the switch, inspect the heat exchanger, flue venting, and burner assembly to identify and correct the cause of the rollout event. Failure to address the underlying issue may result in repeated tripping or unsafe operation.
