How a Potential Relay Works

A potential relay is a normally closed (NC) switching device used in conjunction with a start capacitor in single-phase motor circuits. During motor start-up, the relay remains closed, allowing the start capacitor to assist in generating the torque needed to bring the compressor up to speed.
