The Daikin 5MXTH40AVJU9 is a 3.5-ton (40,000 BTU nominal), 5-zone outdoor heat pump condenser from Daikin’s Aurora Hyper-Heat cold-climate line, delivering 40,000 BTU cooling and heating capacity, with variable capacity ranging from 10,570–46,000 BTU cooling and 6,530–56,000 BTU heating. It supports two to five independently-controlled indoor units from a single outdoor unit for whole-home zoned comfort.
At the core is an inverter-driven “variable speed” swing compressor that continuously adjusts output to match demand, delivering up to 20.0 SEER2, 11.7 EER2, and 9.5 HSPF2 efficiency. The system runs on low-GWP R-32 refrigerant, and Hyper-Heat performance delivers 100% rated heating capacity at 5°F with confirmed continuous operation down to -13°F — heating operates across -13°F to 60°F, and cooling from 14°F to 115°F. A factory-installed drain pan heater — built into this model — supports reliable cold-climate drainage without needing a separate accessory.
The outdoor cabinet (43-5/16″ W x 34-1/4″ H x 18-1/8″ D, 219 lb) uses anti-corrosion treatment on the heat exchanger for long-term durability, and outdoor sound pressure runs as low as 55 dB(A). Additional features include Priority Room Setting, Cool/Heat mode lock, and compatibility with the Daikin Cloud Wi-Fi Adaptor for remote comfort control.
Runs on 208/230V single-phase power. This product is designed for A2L (R-32) appliances only. Requires two to five compatible Daikin indoor units (sold separately, matched via the AHRI Directory for rated efficiency), a line set, and drain tubing for installation.
