Description
The Xylem-Hoffman Specialty 404220 is a Series H Cast Iron Float & Thermostatic (F&T) Steam Trap engineered for reliable, continuous condensate drainage in low-pressure steam heating systems. Featuring a 1-1/4″ NPT connection and rated for up to 15 PSI operating pressure, this trap combines a float mechanism for continuous condensate discharge with an integrated thermostatic air vent for efficient non-condensable gas removal — keeping your steam system operating at peak efficiency.
Key Features
- Series H cast iron body construction for durability in demanding steam applications
- 1-1/4″ NPT inlet and outlet connections for straightforward installation
- 15 PSI maximum operating pressure rating
- .312″ orifice for precise condensate flow control
- Integrated thermostatic air vent automatically purges air and non-condensable gases
- Float mechanism provides continuous, modulating condensate discharge
- Designed for low-pressure steam heating and process systems
How Float & Thermostatic Traps Work
Float & Thermostatic steam traps use two mechanisms in one body. The float valve opens and closes in response to condensate level, allowing continuous drainage without steam loss. The thermostatic element responds to temperature differences between steam and cooler non-condensable gases, venting air at startup and during operation. Together, these mechanisms maximize heat transfer efficiency and protect equipment from air binding and water hammer.
