Description
The Lennox 10M61 is an OEM replacement high limit switch designed to protect your furnace from dangerous overheating conditions. Carrying the L180-40F designation, this limit switch is factory-set to open (trip) at 180°F and automatically resets once the temperature drops by 40°F to 140°F, restoring normal furnace operation.
How It Works
The high limit switch continuously monitors the temperature inside the furnace heat exchanger plenum. If temperatures rise beyond the 180°F setpoint — due to restricted airflow, a dirty filter, blocked vents, or a blower failure — the switch opens the control circuit, shutting down the burners to prevent heat exchanger damage, fire hazard, or equipment failure. Once the plenum cools to the reset temperature of 140°F, the switch automatically closes and allows normal operation to resume.
