Description

Mars 19005 Potential Relay Overview

The Mars 19005 is a 395V potential relay designed to improve single-phase compressor starting performance in residential and light commercial HVAC systems. Potential relays work by sensing the back-EMF (electromotive force) generated by the compressor motor’s start winding during startup. Once the motor accelerates to approximately 75% of its rated speed, the relay opens and removes the start capacitor from the circuit — protecting the capacitor from overheating and extending overall system life.

Key Features
  • Pickup voltage: 395V for reliable, consistent compressor startup engagement
  • Coil designation #66 for compatibility with a wide range of single-phase compressor applications
  • Removes start capacitor from circuit once motor reaches operating speed, preventing capacitor burnout
  • Compact, industry-standard design for straightforward installation and replacement
  • Suitable for use in air conditioners, heat pumps, refrigeration units, and other single-phase motor applications
  • Manufactured by Mars — a trusted name in HVAC electrical components
Application

The Mars 19005 potential relay is ideal for technicians replacing failed relays or upgrading compressor starting circuits. It is commonly used alongside start capacitors in hard-start kits to reduce inrush current, minimize voltage sag, and extend compressor life — especially in systems that experience frequent or difficult starts.
