Description
The Mars 19008 is a precision-engineered potential relay designed to assist single-phase compressor motors during startup. By sensing back-EMF voltage generated by the start winding, this relay quickly removes the start capacitor from the circuit once the motor reaches operating speed — protecting both the capacitor and the compressor from damage.
How It Works
Potential relays operate by monitoring the voltage across the start winding. When the motor accelerates and the back-EMF rises to the relay’s pickup voltage (336V), the normally closed contacts open to drop the start capacitor out of the circuit. The relay remains open until the motor stops and voltage falls to the dropout voltage (69V), at which point the contacts close and the relay is ready for the next start cycle.
