The Supco APR5 is a single-phase potential (POT) relay engineered for dependable compressor motor starting in residential and light commercial HVAC and refrigeration applications. Potential relays play a critical role in the motor starting circuit — monitoring the back-EMF generated across the start winding and opening the start capacitor circuit once the motor accelerates to approximately 75% of its rated speed. This protects the start capacitor and start winding from heat damage during normal operation.
