The Universal Security Instruments USI/SMCO/HW10YR/P is a hardwired combination smoke, fire, and carbon monoxide alarm with 10-year battery backup, voice alerts, and interconnect capability — built for whole-home installs where code requires interconnected alarms and continuous coverage through power outages.
Hardwired primary power keeps the unit running without any battery drain under normal conditions. The embedded CR17450 lithium backup battery provides uninterrupted protection during power failures and eliminates low-battery chirps for the full 10-year service life. At end of life, a single alert signals replacement is due rather than ongoing chirping.
Interconnect capability means when one alarm detects smoke or CO, every compatible interconnected unit in the home sounds simultaneously — occupants anywhere in the structure get the alert regardless of where the event originates. The voice alert feature clearly announces the specific threat type, differentiating fire alerts from CO alerts audibly, and provides voice reminders at end of life. That distinction is critical at night when occupants need to act immediately on the right information.
The photoelectric sensor with Sensing Plus multi-criteria detection identifies both slow-smoldering and fast-flaming fires, while the electrochemical CO sensor handles carbon monoxide independently. False alarm resistance is built into the detection logic to reduce nuisance events from cooking or steam. ETL listed.
