Description
The ZoneFirst SPRD-14 is a 14-inch round barometric static pressure regulating damper engineered to maintain proper static pressure balance in HVAC zoning systems. When zone dampers close during a call for heating or cooling, excess static pressure can build up in the ductwork — the SPRD-14 automatically relieves that pressure by diverting surplus conditioned air, protecting the blower and extending system life without the need for electrical connections or external controls.
How It Works
The SPRD-14 operates on a purely barometric (pressure-differential) principle. As downstream static pressure rises above the set point, the damper blade opens to bypass excess airflow into a designated relief zone or return plenum. When pressure normalizes, the damper closes — all passively and automatically, with no wiring required.
Key Features
- 14-inch round form factor for straightforward duct integration
- Barometric, self-actuating operation — no power or controls wiring needed
- Relieves excess static pressure in multi-zone forced-air systems
- Protects blower motors and heat exchangers from high-pressure stress
- Helps maintain consistent, balanced airflow across all zones
- Compatible with ZoneFirst and other residential and light commercial zoning systems
- Durable construction suited for in-duct installation
Specifications
- Brand: ZoneFirst
- Model: SPRD-14
- Duct Size: 14″ Round
- Actuation Type: Barometric (pressure-differential)
- Power Required: None
- Application: HVAC zoning static pressure relief
Application
Ideal for residential and light commercial zoning installations where variable air volume demands require automatic static pressure management. The SPRD-14 is typically installed in a bypass duct connecting the supply plenum to the return plenum or a designated dump zone, ensuring the air handler always has a path to move air regardless of how many zone dampers are open.
