The Armstrong International Series 812 Cast Iron Inverted Bucket Steam Trap (Model 812-3/4-125) is a time-tested, mechanically operated steam trap engineered for dependable condensate discharge in a wide range of industrial and commercial steam system applications. Built around the proven inverted bucket operating principle, this trap reliably discharges condensate while preventing live steam loss — helping to maximize energy efficiency and protect downstream equipment.

Inverted Bucket Operating Principle

The inverted bucket mechanism operates on the difference in density between steam and condensate. When steam enters the trap, the inverted bucket floats and closes the discharge valve, holding steam in the system. As condensate accumulates, the bucket loses buoyancy and sinks, opening the valve to discharge condensate. A small vent hole in the top of the bucket continuously purges non-condensable gases, preventing air binding and ensuring consistent trap performance.
