Description
The International Comfort Products 1186809 is a factory-replacement high-limit switch engineered to protect furnaces and air handlers from dangerous overheating conditions. When supply-air temperatures rise to the trip point, the switch opens the control circuit — shutting down the burner and preventing heat exchanger damage or fire hazard. Once the system cools to the reset temperature, the switch automatically restores normal operation.
How It Works
The limit switch continuously monitors the air temperature inside the furnace plenum or heat exchanger compartment. If temperatures reach the open set point, the switch interrupts the 24-volt control circuit, de-energizing the gas valve and stopping combustion. The switch resets automatically when the temperature drops back to the close set point, allowing the system to resume normal heating.
