The Universal Security Instruments USI/SMCO/10YR/V is a sealed-battery combination smoke, fire, and carbon monoxide alarm that covers three distinct threats in a single unit. The photoelectric sensor with Sensing Plus multi-criteria detection handles both slow-smoldering and fast-flaming fires, while the electrochemical CO sensor provides independent carbon monoxide detection — one device, one installation, two separate hazards monitored continuously.
The voice alert feature is the key differentiator on this model. Rather than a generic alarm tone, the unit announces the specific threat type — differentiating between fire alerts and CO alerts audibly — and also provides voice reminders when the unit reaches end of life. That distinction matters in the middle of the night when occupants need to know immediately whether to evacuate or ventilate.
The CR17450 lithium battery is embedded and non-removable, eliminating low-battery chirps for the full 10-year service life. At end of life, a single alert signals replacement is due. Non-volatile operation means the unit continues monitoring through power failures without any backup wiring required.
